A pot experiment was carried on the dynamic effects of waterlogging stress on growth and yield of middle season rice at the tillering stage. The results indicated that the growth period of two varieties were prolonged under the waterlogging stress. Compared to CK, the height of rice decreased in the early period, but the height of 2 d treatment and 4 d treatment increased in the mature period. The green leaves, green leaf area, root length, root surface area, root volume, root activity and SPAD significant reduced with the aggravate of waterlogging stress. After recovery growth, the SPAD and other characteristics of rice closed to the control, and then the gaps increased in maturity because of premature decay. The yield of two varieties decreased with the time of inundation, the yield of 6 d treatment had dropped to about 50% of the control. The reduction of yield was result from the decrease of total grains, the increase of empty grains and the decline of seed setting rate.
