Improving Restorer Lines R225 of Intermediate Amylose Content by Molecular Marker-assisted Selection in Rice

Abstract

Quality breeding has become one of the important objectives in rice breeding in China. Selection of genotypes with good quality by molecular marker is an important method of quality improvement. To lower the high amylose content of an elite indica rice restorer line R225, three indica varieties(R122, R998 and R527) with low amylose content were used as donor and backcrossed with recurrent parent R225 respectively, and their backcrosses were identified using a molecular marker RM190. Analysis of genotypes and AC of improved lines revealed that the AC of new lines with new Wx gene were degrated from 25.4% to 11.6%~23.5%. Background SSR analysis showed that the recovery rate of the selected lines reached 81.1%~92.6%. The improved lines can be used as candidate parental lines for breeding of hybrid rice.
