The advantages of yield formation and the characteristics of large panicle type japonica hybrid rice of Yongyou 2640,Yongyou 2638,Yongyou 1640, which had a better performance in Huaibei area, were machine-transplanted and studied under high-yield cultivation measures in 2011 and 2012, with new super rice varieties Liandao7, Xindao18 and Ningdao 4 grown widely in local as control. It was showed that the yields of large panicle type japonica hybrid rice was significantly higher than that of super japonica rice, because of its more grain number per panicle, and resulted enough total grain number of groups, and higher seed setting rate. For super japonica rice, although with more panicles number, but less enough number of grain per panicle resulted less total grain number, and less yield. It has a significant characteristics that percentage of earbearing tiller, leaf area index, photosynthetic potential, growth rate and dry matter accumulation of population, were significantly greater in large panicle type japonica hybrid rice than that in middle conventional japonica rice in yield formating of middle and late period, and the yields of the former is 7.68%~12.14% higher than the later in rice following wheat in Huaibei area. The research showed that the biggest correlation coefficient (0.980) exists between number of grain per panicle and yield.

    2014, 20(2): 23-24.  DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1006-8082.2014.02.006
    Abstract ( )   PDF (289KB) ( )
The content and composition of storage protein, which were controlled by genetic factors, environment and cultivation techniques, are important index to evaluate rice quality and nutrition value. Panicle fertilizer obviously enhanced crude protein content of matured rice grain, but the impact on the relative content of each component was not significant. High temperature stress significantly changed the dynamic process of the accumulation of storage proteins components, the components soluble in dilute acid or dilute alkali, including more than 57 kD polypeptides (which is considered a precursor of glutelin or protein polymer), maintained a high level from the beginning of filling stage. After high temperature stress, the glutelin of matured seeds were existed in state of high molecular polymer,  and the contents of glutelin monomer and prolamin were reduced.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (351KB) ( )
The grain quality traits and their relationships of 86 medium amylose content hybrid rice combinations were studied and analyzed in Sichuan Province. The results showed that the quality traits are quite different. The difference in chalkiness degree was the biggest, CV was 33.22%; followed by chalky rice rate, CV was 23.32%; the last was brown rice rate, CV was 1.01%. According to the high quality rice standards of individual traits, except the amylose content, the high compliance rate are gel consistency and head milled rice rate, there are 94.19% and 86.05% combinations up to three grade quality rice; the low compliance rate are chalky rice rate and chalkiness degree, there are only 3.49% and 4.65% combinations up to three grade quality rice. Comprehensive quality indexes of 2 combinations reach three grade quality standards in the 86 indica hybrid rice combinations. Correlation analysis results showed that in medium amylose content(15%~24%), amylose content is highly significant positive correlation with chalky rice rate and chalkiness degree; gel consistency is highly significant negative correlation with protein content; chalkiness degree is highly significant negative correlation with length-width ratio, and highly significant positive correlation with chalky rice rate; length-width ratio is highly significant negative correlation with head rice rate and chalky rice rate. It is main target to ruduce the chalky rice rate and chalkiness degree and then pay attention to the selection of strong resistant to rice milling in rice quality improvement.

    2014, 20(2): 35-39.  DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1006-8082.2014.02.010
    Abstract ( )   PDF (579KB) ( )
Rice is one of the most important crops in China. Information technology, especially rice modelling, will be very useful to rice cultivation and breeding. In this paper, the author preliminary summarized most of plant models and divided them into three categories, process based model (PBM, or functional model), structural model and functional-structural model (FSPM). Then the authors briefly told their role in rice cultivation and breeding. The process based model could be used to: predict the rice growth and yield, support the farmer or government to make decision on rice production together with remote sensing technology (RS) and geographic information system (GIS), do virtual experiments which could not be conducted in the field or would cost a lot. Structural model could be used to quantitatively describe the canopy in detail, calculate the potential photosynthesis capacity of different cultivar canopies and evaluate the rice ideotype, etc. The functional-structural model could be used to simulate the biomass allocated among different organs and then simulate and find the appropriate way to get more productive rice cultivars. The authors also discussed the reasons why the model could not be used broadly and gave some solutions.

Grain development is greatly relate to the grain policy of a country or region. Social is stable when grain policy promotes grain production and equilibrium distribution, and is not stable when tax is too much and other grain policy inhibits grain production. In china, since the ancient times, many grain policy established from rice and rice production, even named as “rice”, such as “provincial governors assuming responsiblity for the rice bag”. Rice and grain policy of ancient and modern China before reform and opening up are discussed in the paper.
