    KANG Shu-Jing-12, QIAN Qian-1, ZHU Li-1 *
    2014, 20(4): 1-8.  DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1006-8082.2014.04.001
    Abstract ( )   PDF (831KB) ( )
Rice root is the main organ for nutrient and water absorption, its growth and development are regulated by several plant hormones collaboratively. Of which, auxin is the extensively studied. In this paper, the author elucidate the development process and molecular mechanism of rice root architecture by analyzing the regulating genes that have been cloned. Comprehensive analysis reveals that the root shape is altered by auxin biosynthesis genes that regulate auxin concentration. Auxin transport regulate the development of lateral root and crown root through controlling auxin influx and efflux. Auxin signal transduction, which affects the root system, is regulated by TIR1、Aux/IAA and ARF. Besides the distrubition of auxin is influenced by acting with other plant hormones. However, these cloned root shape genes in rice is still insufficient, and the outline of molecular regulation network of auxin is not clear. Therefore,it is important to further understand molecular mechanism of auxin in rice root by screening and collecting rice auxin mutants with root mutations.

    2014, 20(4): 9-13.  DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1006-8082.2014.04.002
    Abstract ( )   PDF (505KB) ( )
Based on the panel data of provincial rice production in China from 1985 to 2011, the trend of Chinese provincial grain structure variation and the comparative advantage of rice areas was analyzed by the index of production concentration degree and comparative advantage. The results showed that rice production concentration degree in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River was about 48% since 1985. And the degree in the southeast coast fell from 27.21% in 1985 to 17.36% in 2011, while the degree of northeastern area was raised from 3.16% in 1985 to 15.87% in 2011. Comparative advantage analysis showed that the comparative advantage in middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River and southeast coast areas were significant, but northeastern area was not. The three rice production areas should make the best of their own producing advantage to balance our nation’s rice supply and demand, thus ensuring our food security.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (369KB) ( )
The temporal changes in the number of major cultivars and percentage of production area for the top five cultivars were analyzed according to production area of different types of rice cultivars in Zhejiang province since 1999. Compared to 1999, Which is the former year of the Seed Law of the People's Republic of China implemented, the total number of rice cultivars applied in Zhejiang Province was almost similar since 2002, but the number of hybrid late rice combinations increased gradually, whereas the number of conventional rice cultivars except for late indica rice cultivars declined year by year. The percentage of production area of top five hybrid late indica rice combinations reduced year by year, while that of conventional late japonica rice cultivars increased gradually. The production area of hybrid late japonica rice combinations increased sharply, while that of conventional late japonica rice cultivars reduced dramatically. During the period of 1999-2013, the major  rice cultivar was replaced at least once.

The demand for high quality rice with good taste is increasing with the improvement of people's living standard. Many researches have been breeding rice cultivars with improved tasting quality that is tailored for the demands of urban and rural residents in late japonica rice area of the middle and lower Yangtze River. The two rice cultivars Jia 58 and Jia 66 are both derived from crosses of a glabrous rice variety and a late japonica variety. Jia 58 is the progeny of a cross between Jia 0664 and Jia33. Jia 0664 is derived from the America glabrous rice variety Rico No.1, which has a good tasting quality and low-amylose content. Jia 66 is the offspring of WP177 crossed with DC92, another derivative of a glabrous rice variety. Both of our new rice varieties were selected based on their low amylose content(about 10%), good tasting quality, high yield and broad disease resistance. Jia 58 was recommended by Hangzhou city for single-season regional trial in Zhejiang Province in 2011, and the production trial and extended trial were carried out simultaneously in 2012. The variety was approved by crop variety approval committee of Zhejiang Province in 2013. During 2010 to 2013, Jia 58 was planted more than 1,000 hm2.

The results showed that when planting density was 23 5000/hm2, the yields of mechanical precision hill-direct-seeding rice were similar to hand transplanting rice, but higher than direct seeding rice. The advantages of mechanical direct seeding were early tillering and more tillers. Compared to hand transplanting rice, the grains per spike were decreased by 7.92%, 24.88% and 15.68%, however the effective panicles were increased by 11.75%, 21.92% and 31.11% respectively. Experimental demonstration showed that mechanical hill-direct-seeding rice could achieve high yields.

In terms of leaf length, tillering number, distribution of internode length, spikelets per panicle and number of green leaves, the authors proposed some quantization Indexes of plant type and key cultivation techniques for 10.5 t/hm2 of machine transplanted rice, including cultivation of suitable-age rice seedling, enough planting density and basic seedlings, scientific management of fertilizer and water, comprehensive control of weeds, pests and diseases, to provide technical support for the application of this new variety in machine transplanted rice in Huai’an City.

Comparative experiment of pesticides, spray volume and control date were performed in the field in order to control the Sesamia inferens at rice panicle stage. The results showed that the control effects of several pesticides against sesamia inferens at rice panicle stage were good, including chlorantraniliprole, phenthoate, avermectins·diazinon, avermectins·triazophos, avermectins·sumithion, dimethoate·triazophos and triazophos·dipterex. Among these pesticides, chlorantraniliprole and phenthoate have obvious control effects at both egg hatching stage and low instar larvae stage. We suggest that the spray volume of water should be 1000 kg per hm2. When Sesamia inferens occurred seriously, pesticides should be sprayed twice consecutively at the beginning and the peak period of egg hatching. If necessary, the pesticides should be sprayed at the peak period of low instar larvae.

The experiment and demonstration of artificially releasing Trichogramma japonicum were conducted in rice field to control Chilo suppressalis in 2012. Three treatments of parasitoids-releasing field, farmers’self-controlling field and contrast were set up in this experiment. The date of realising Trichogramma japonicum is during the beginning peak hatching period of Chilo suppressalis. The rice area is 6 670 m2 and 3 times releasing, the total amount of Trichogramma japonicum are 300 000. The results indicated that the average insect damaged plant rate was 3.28%, the average control effect was 79.62%. It is important to release Trichogramma japonicum to control the Chilo suppressalis, protect the ecological environment of paddy fields and improve rice quality.

Limited by geographical conditions, high quality rice varieties are not suitable for planting in Wuling Mountainous areas where is once regarded as restricted area of conventional high quality rice production. By doing variety-screening experiments and cultivation techniques improvement in Yongshun city and Xuan’en city for several consecutive years, Hunan rice research institute explored the high yield(>7.5 t/hm2)and high efficiency cultivation techniques of high quality rice planting in Wuling Mountainous areas, and summarized a set of practical and technical measures.
