The resistances of 104 and 49 indica inbred rice varieties against rice false smut (Ustilaginoidea virens) were evaluated by artificial inoculation and natural nursery infection during 2010-2013 in Guangdong Province. There were 3, 23, 10, 8, 6, and 54 varieties showed high resistant(HR), resistant(R), moderately resistant(MR), moderately susceptible(MS), susceptible(S) and high susceptible(HS) respectively by artificial inoculation in greenhouse, the overall R/S ratio was 34.6/65.4. There were 5, 8, 8, 16, 6 and 6 varieties showed HR, R, MR, MS, S and HS respectively by natural infection in nursery, the overall R/S ratio was 42.9/57.1. Both results showed that there were significant differences of resistance against rice false smut in 57 registered varieties in Guangdong, the overall R/S ratio was 19.3/80.7, varieties such as Guangyan no.1, Huahang no.31, Jiafuzhan, Yuxiangyouzhan, Guangluai no.4, Qifozhan and Yuexiangzhan showed good resistance. The results will provide a basis for disease control and resistance breeding against rice false smut in Guangdong province.
